Guide

Learn how to use the Hill Explorer app effectively.

Initialize sensors

When you first start the app, gently move your phone (e.g. rotate it in different directions) to properly initialize the sensors and align the display with reality.

Calibrate for accuracy

If the peaks still don't align correctly, use the calibration feature to fine-tune the sensors and better match the display with the surrounding landscape.

Customize the app

In Settings, you can choose which types of objects to display, adjust app behavior, and tailor other options to your preferences.

Use offline mode

Heading somewhere without signal? Download offline maps and data for your selected area in advance.

View peak details

Tap the screen or a specific object to view detailed information such as elevation, distance, and other useful details about the place.

Zoom in

Use the magnifier to zoom in and identify peaks and other objects more easily in dense areas.

Adjust visibility range

Use the distance switch to control how far objects are displayed and adapt the view to the situation around you.

Capture and share

Capture beautiful views with labeled peaks and share them with your friends.

Learn how to calibrate the Hill Explorer app.

Automatic calibration

This option performs calibration automatically without user input, using the device sensors and visible horizon. For best results, ensure good visibility and a clear, unobstructed view of the horizon. Fog, trees, buildings, or other obstacles may affect calibration accuracy. For optimal results, hold your phone steady and point it toward a distinct horizon line.

Manual calibration

This option allows you to manually calibrate the app by adjusting the sensors and visible horizon.

Sensitivity

Use the sensitivity switch to choose between faster or finer adjustments for more precise alignment.

Reset

This option allows you to reset the calibration settings to their default state. Use this if you want to start the calibration process from scratch or if the current calibration is not accurate.

Save

After calibration, don't forget to confirm your changes by pressing Save, otherwise they won't be applied.
